I read a very interesting article by @alexwilliams in RedWritecloud on why Google wave failed so miserably. I agree with most of the comments there as it never really took of. However I was very upset with that failure, as I truly believe it was a powerful tool I could used to finally start those collective projects that built in my head. Of course, that would be right after dealing with dilemma of reaching out, or wait a little longer.
Somehow, the emergence of a complex system will definetely have to come as a disruptive clash compared to the previous state. We must keep on poking the system till we succed.
Here is what I wrote as a comment on this post:
I had a lot of hope in googlewave as a possibility to create collective projects. But the expectation of conceiving such projects is inversely proportional to to the time you take to understand how/why to be part of one.
It's definitely a leap of faith. New roles and new ways must make their way through our established ways of collaborating in real time (reunions, meetings, brainstorming, working documents, editing, functionalchatted on line. The general goal is to find more efficient ways to interact among different kinds of collectives that we affiliated to, because there's a common goal/vision. Do what we do now in a certain amount of time, by ourselves, or through a group process, that takes a few rounds of feedback, a person coordinating and putting together the final output. This could apply to any type of process. Can we do it better?
What we need to see are some examples of real complex systems emerging in order to believe in a completely different approach. The goal is reaching out as far as those that have not jet chatted once... convincing the early adapters into building the path for a greater good.
We must built those global structures that enable us to have the interent that we want in the future. unocent is the path we propose for this long ride, where we must start thinking in the whole by acting, each of us, aligned with our own principles.
