I like competitions. I've played sports all my life and I've always loved the competing side of it. It's been eight years since the last time I engage myself in serious tournament, but I miss it. A few years ago I figured if there are no snowboarders in Costa Rica, and I was sort of developing a feel for it, why not try to make the Costa Rican olympic team. My natural place was there, holding the flag. But then, projects come and go inside my head, without a clear and defined program to fit all of them in a single life time. Well, it's better than letting time go by in blank, although some projects will go unzipped to the coffin.
This is exactly what I wanted to do... boardercross. A typical race with the boys, a starting line and finish line. Back to basics. Add the jumps, the snow, the ride that comes naturally from the interaction with the mountain. But most of all, snowboard needs the full concentration at every second of the ride, no breaks allowed, if you don't want to end up soared.
Finals have a special uncertainty that spurs the most unforgettable outcomes. It's the emmergence at the verge of the limit of caos. And this video of the first women's olympic final in Torino is a perfect example of it.
The olympic goal is still on my to do list. Other tropical souls have reached this goal, including Costa Rican's own Arturo Kinch. In a another universe, there are superstar young heros reaching the limit at the half pipes, like Shaun White, as big as one sportsman can get. And in bordercross, one catalan right up there with the best riders, Jordi Font. There have been others who tried to get there and maybe Oscar is closer to the goal.
